The National Kaolin Products Company was founded in Aiken, SC April 1941.

The business supplied bagged and bulk kaolin to the rubber industry. In May 1980, Grace purchased the facility to capture raw material supply for our fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) business.

Kaolin is a member of the clay family of minerals, found in vast sheet-like deposits across central Georgia and north into Aiken County, South Carolina. Today, Grace operates the Aiken facility to supply other Grace plants with

materials needed to manufacture petroleum catalyst. A small portion of Aiken production is calcined and sold to the concrete industry as a strength enhancer.
