Grace's Chattanooga plant was originally opened in 1957 to supply the federal government with heavy minerals. Grace purchased the site in 1965 and began focusing on the lower end of heavy mineral production. In the 1980’s, Grace transitioned RANEY® metal catalyst manufacturing to Chattanooga. In 2003, the site began producing fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) additives.
Grace’s Chattanooga facility is located on 71 acres along the South Chickamauga Creek. Today, the plant produces fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) intermediates; FCC additives; RANEY® metal catalysts in granular, activated slurry and activated granular forms; several forms of solid support activators; and several other specialty products.
