Animal feed
Many agricultural formulations are negatively impacted by moisture. Caking and reduced flow can negatively impact processing and formulation stability. Our SYLOID® and PERKASIL® silicas can be used to eliminate these adverse effects and improve flow properties by controlling relative humidity during processing and storage.
SYLOID® and PERKASIL® silicas are odorless, tasteless and chemically inert synthetic micronized silicas used in agriculture feed to:
- Control moisture
- Prevent caking
- Maintain free-flow behavior
- Improve processability and homogeneity
- Extend shelf life
SYLOID® and PERKASIL® silicas meet established standards of the Food Chemicals Codex (FCC) for silicon dioxide. These materials also meet the conditions of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Title 21 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 172.480.
Pesticides and fungicides
While pesticides and fungicides are a critical component to reduce unwanted organisms and pests in crop production and farming, certain health hazards and environmental impacts associated with these substances raise concern. Controlled release of pesticides reduces concentration and controls overuse, which are two helpful factors to address adverse health and environmental considerations. With less concentrated product through controlled release technologies, formulators can produce products that may contribute to safer and less harmful agricultural practices.
LUDOX® colloidal silica can be used in encapsulation technologies to provide controlled release of agricultural actives in pesticides and fungicides and offers the following advantages:
- Improves utilization of agricultural active ingredients (AI)
- Prevents premature degradation of actives under harsh environmental conditions
- Reduces dosage of AI and cost of the pest control process
- Reduces residue and pollution
